Good Mom vs. Bad Mom

VS.

So, let me just say that I am getting kind of tired of EVERYONE trying to tell me how to raise my baby. So many people just think it's their responsibility to give me unwanted advice. Yes, being a mom has been hard, but I LOVE cuddling with my baby and I love it when she smiles and is happy...what mom doesn't love that? What I want to know is, when did letting your baby scream their head off and try to calm themselves make you a better mom than the mom who goes in and cuddles with their baby? I was told today that I am a bad mom because I cannot stand letting my baby cry and cry. I'm sorry but when Bethanie is screaming like she is being murdered, I am not just going to sit back and listen without wanting to comfort her. It kills me having to hear that cry. I would much rather see my baby smiling in my arms than to have her screaming, face turning red and tears streaming down her cheeks in her bed. Does this make me a bad mom???

  1. Poor girl!!! You are NOT a bad mom at all! I know for me people try to give me all sorts of advice on how TO get pregnant (since I have been trying forever)What works for one person doesn't work for another...and I think the same goes for babies. What works for one baby might not work for another. Just do the best you can and that is all that you need to do!

  3. First of all, Bethanie is so cute! Second of all, no two babies are the same and each mother knows their own baby the best. The first few months I never let Payton cry it out, we were still getting to know each other and I always feared that she needed something, even if it was to just be held, what's so wrong with cuddling a newborn!? As she got older I started to recognize her cries more (mainly at bed and nap time time) and I did let her cry it out sometimes, but never for very long. For us, this was necessary to help her be a good sleeper and she has been since about 5 months old. Really, like I said though, each baby is different and you shouldn't do something you aren't comfortable with just because others think you should. Good luck and just remember, Bethanie is your baby and you know her best!

*Sorry for the super long comment!

  4. I TOTALLY Agree with Amy! You are of course NOT a bad mom!!! I HATE hearing Mayli's cry....besides, what's so bad about cuddling your baby? If it works for you and you have the time, and you want to, then do it! I don't think it is possible to spoil a baby by holding them when they cry when they are this little. They just want something...or their mommy! I hold Mayli all of the time because I CAN! I have the time, and I LOVE holding her so does that make me a bad mom? NO! I think it might even make you a better mom because you'll come to know your baby better....but I do agree with Amy when she says there comes a point where you can start to distinguish their cries. But for now I say hold your little baby to your hearts desire!!! When will you get this opportunity again?
